I, Josie, am a wife, mother of 3 and a long-time blogger. Aspie Road was created as a nod to The Beatles, whom our Aspie son loves. It also speaks to this road we’re on as a family… this long and winding road. (see what I did there?)
Our little family of five has been my topic of writing for years because, well, it’s just what I do. Whether or not anyone has been reading is a whole other story. *cricket* As you can imagine, since Autism has come into our lives blogging has taken on new meaning for me.

With two of my kids and also a nephew on the spectrum, it is something I am familiar with. That said, in all honesty, I’m hardly an expert about Autism. (Although like many of you moms I can research with the best of them!) I am, however, an expert and keeper of all knowledge about my kids.
All I really know is that it is a very big part of my life now and I, like you, just try to be the best mom I can for my kids.

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned the last few years is that while autism can’t help but touch all aspects of family life it hardly defines it. My kids are bigger than their diagnoses. They are WAY bigger than the issues that crop up or the fears I may hold. We are a family (a freaking awesome one, I might add) that just-so-happens to be touched by Autism.

So at Aspie Road, we will talk about your everyday lifestyle topics (i.e. school, going out, holidays, food, etc.) just through the lens of a family living with autism. I hope after you leave this blog that you will feel that someone really does understand a bit of what your family is going through and knows how hard it can be to find peace in the chaos. It is something I struggle with daily. Even though our kids are probably very different from each other (autism being such a large spectrum), just know that someone has your back.
